The school was opened on 1st April 1995 by The Williamson Magor Education Trust to provide the opportunity of a high quality education to parents throughout India and the region generally as well as, in particular, for the children of those living and working in Assam. They are committed to a residential education, believing that it creates one of the best environments for effective pastoral care and support while encouraging mutual responsibility and a sense of community. Children are prepared to take their place in, and create, a caring and forward-looking society. Amidst the extensive playing fields and campus the school building stands well designed to accommodate modern school facilities, the need of growing children and display traditions of local architecture. There are separate boarding houses for boys and girls. Every hostel is capable of housing 90 to 100 students in a variety of units ranging from 12 person dormitories, for junior students to 4 person bed suits in the senior years. A good number of Class 12 students have a room to themselves. Set in the heart of Assam surrounded by tea gardens, AVS stands on 250 acres of green, undulating grounds. The climate is pleasant with cool winters and clear temperate nights
