The work

“Occupational therapists help patients identify imbalances they may have in their lives and design activities to deal with them. This type of therapy is patient specific, involving recreational, creative or educational activities. The patient's specific interests, his background and his previous experiences also form an integral part of the treatment,” says practicing therapist Dr Aarti Desai.

An occupational therapist’s area of work includes giving customised treatment programmes for specific disabilities, evaluating home and work environments and giving recommendations for necessary adaptation, recommending adaptive equipment for permanent/ temporary loss of function, such as wheel chairs, splints, aids for eating and dressing needed for the patient and training them in its use, assessing and recording the patients progress periodically and also giving guidance to family members on how to look after the patient.

The occupational therapists work do include, injuries in the work place, those strains that keeps on repeating, heart attacks, bone problems, nerve problems, serious heart problems, they also include the injury that comes in birth, mind problems specifically the learning aspects, or those of being underdeveloped. They are keen on helping those with behavioural problems those type with patients with Alzheimer, stresses. The person with eating disorders can be helped by an occupational therapist. Those people with burns and/or injuries in the bones, people with amputated legs or arms can have treatment in the occupational therapy clinic. .

An occupational therapist must have practices in the clinical and paramedical subjects and applications wise in the hospitals and or therapy clinics, they can specialize in anatomy and physiology, pathology, biochemistry, medical occupational therapy, surgical therapy, they have the training in six months time for some but for some they also include in the colleges or universities.

This gives so much assistance to a person who has ergonomic problems.
