20-20. Good for Cricket? OR The end of the sport as we know it?

Last night's game was stupid - no skill, no strategy, no finesse, just brute force and plain luck. Last night's bowl out even more stupid. But all this was not as stupid as the Pakistani bowlers who couldn't hit the wicket (there are 3 of them for crying out loud!!). Still this new bastardized format, a cross between baseball & a circus, has only further diluted the game of cricket. Cricket is now being prostituted to the networks and advertisers and the highest bidder gets to have his way with the sport for as long as he pays.

There is excitement, there is closure, there are pretty people shaking their behinds for the sexually starved sub-continent population. Reliance is definitely building their brand to unimaginable levels but where is the cricket amidst all this???

Ravi Shastri, our coach is making some extra cash standing in the dugout????? (WTF??) interviewing Mr. Rajput????? (WTF???) our general manager.

What is going on? Is this the beginning of the end for this sport??

I disagree. I love 20-20 - Its fun exciting and doesn't go on for a whole week!! This will make it more appealing to the rest of the world and maybe get more countries involved. Also, the younger players will get more chances to play which is exactly what we need today.

Everything has to evolve and why should cricket be the exception

I like the 20-20 cricket but I think the South Africans have really messed it up. Techno Music, Dugouts, Bowl Outs, Ties, etc. are messing up the game except for the cheerleaders!! :)

Here's why I love it:

1. The game is never decided until the last over
2. Indian openers can no longer take 15 overs to "settle in"!!
3. Australia can actually lose a game
4. Indian players actually make an effort while running between the wickets
5. Yuvraj isn't the only one being hit for 30 runs in an over
6. Agarkar only gets to bowl 4 overs
7. You dont have to sit through an entire day when the result has been decided in the first hour
8. We only get to hear Ravi Shastri's voice for 3 hours instead of 8
9. Another reason to end Test Cricket.
10. The cheerleaders, ofcourse!!

I disagree. This ia a evilution. And has to be. Cricket has to changed with the time and demand of people. Today in this 21st Century we had hardly any time to watch a five day match, even we are reluctant to go to the field.

It will also evolve.Maybe the rest of the world who are not into cricket will also get involved.

I think Kanchan Roy's point is a very valid one. The Twenty20 format will allow for cricket to be marketed to other countries who, otherwise, would not be able to market & consume the traditional (Test/ODI) formats.

I fully agree with Naman Agarwal's view in this respect. It is a good format to experiment with. BCCI should utilize the huge wealth.

Rishi I hope your doubts have been addressed after our spectacular performance!! This is the format to watch and this is the future of cricket. The BCCI has more money than the ICC and seeing how people have responded to this format along with our teams performance means only 1 thing, More money for the BCCI and that means one thing, We are going to see a lot of 20-20 going forward!!!

Why is it that we get more interested after a victory, but forget the one's where we played good but lost the game. If heart rules over logic there will be more disasters.

I agree with Mr. Roy. We played well and that is what is important. We fought through every match. We have young players who are hungry and that is what makes it exciting. Sreesanth's spirit is great and you can see the vigour and excitement that you don't see with older cricketers who have made crores of rupees and are past their prime. We should enjoy the sport and support our team. Congratulations to our players!!

did anyone see the match today? God helped us with the rains because Sachin got out for a big ZERO! Like I said earlier the problem is that we need new players because all the experienced players don't play well...

For all these new format games, infusion of new blood is necessary. The experienced players have their limitations of getting adjusted to the new format. The newer entrants will tend to perform better.

I tend to agree with Ekta on this one. You can take any sport and athletes are peaking in their twenties. So why should cricket be any different. Our selection process is not transparent and there are many external factors (politics) at play when deciding the composition of the team. I think new 20-20 leagues being formed will help in identifying new talent that can then be rotated to have the best possible mix of players and move away from the current model where guys get in based on their bios and not on their performance.

There's a lot of money in Cricket, some say BCCI is sitting on 3,000 Crores of Cash!!! So, why not put that to good use and figure out a way to get the best possible team and give other more deserving players a chance. There are 1 Billion people in the country, surely, with the money that's there we can find a group of 11 that really excel...

Bechare bowlers ki haalat kharaab. Its good but must provide certain additional rules which helps bowlers too. And ofcourse its a galli cricket of India and sure we are champions in it than any. one day is best of my opinion. It takes little bit of Stamina not that like Test matches and even keeps us waiting for results and yes to accept overall its poora timepass haa. No jokes apart. 20-20 is good but need some as I told early.
