Bharuch is an ancient historic city situated on the bank of one of the most pious and sacred river of India - namely the Narmada River. Bharuch had its glorious past and at one time the port of Bharuch was buzzing with a large export and import trade; it has given to the country some of the renowned personalities and scholars like Shri Balwant Rai Thakore, Shri Munsi, Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, Shri Krishnalal Jhaveri, Shri Chandubhai Desai(Chhote sardar), Shri Dinkar Rai Desai and the like.

However , till 1955, facilities for higher education did not exist in Bharuch, it was sometime in October 1954 when Revered Swami Shri Atulanandji happened to come to Bharuch in connection with his 'Chaturmas puja' and having come to know that this town had no facility for college education , he took up the cause for establishing a college in Bharuch. Accordingly, Shri S'ad Vidya Mandal was set up in October 1954 in Bharuch with the prime objective of making available facilities of higher education with emphasis on quality to the students of Bharuch and near by areas within their means.The Mandal is registered under the Societies registration Act of 1860 and also under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.
