Madras School of Social Work was established in 1952 by Mary Clubwala Jadhav, under the auspices of Madras State Branch of the Indian Conference of Social Work (renamed the Indian Council of Social Welfare) and the Guild of Service (Central). The College is run under the aegis of the Society for Social Education and Research formed in 1960. It is a member of the Association of Schools of Social Work in India and the Asian Pacific Association of Social Work Education and is also an affiliate of International Association of Schools of Social Work. The entire gamut of learning - conceptual, experimental and self-discovery, makes an MSSW post graduate to challenge the limits and to make a difference, positively. Aims and Objectives: - To organise short-term training programmes in social work. To conduct research studies on social problems, social welfare and other issues of concern. To undertake community social service projects. To arrange lectures, seminars, conferences, symposia and discussions on problems of social interest. To provide agencies and individuals with consultation and guidance. To publish books and monographs relevant to the field of social work and social welfare.
