Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans (Rajaji Vidyashram), Chennai
Founded in 1938, from small beginnings the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan has grown into an all-India intellectual, cultural and educational movement. True to its goal of revitalising Dharma or the moral law in its three-fold form of Truth, Love and Beauty, the Bhavan is ceaselessly striving to carry forward Indias ageless message - Faith, self-discipline and dedication. The School provides an atmosphere conducive to preserving and reviving Indian culture, offering Quality, Education, taking into consideration the aspirations and needs of the student community. The curriculum combines a variety of courses in arts and sciences to develop a desired learning experience. The student teacher ratio is optimum with an average class strength of 40. The Chennai Kendra was the second kendra to be set up after the Delhi Kendra. The Chennai Kendra was started way back in 1958 in a small room made available by late Shri N. Nilakanthan. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan established Rajaji Vidyashram a non-residential school in Madras in 1976. The Vidyashram combines scholastic achievement with character building and exposure to Indian values & traditions. The Vidyashram is not an institution for mechanical transmission of knowledge. A conscious and positive effort is made to develop fully all the faculties of the child, trying at every stage to discover and foster special talents in the child and to reinforce the areas in which the child is weak. At the Vidyashram the endeavour is to make education alive, challenging and attractive to children, to make it purposeful, imaginative and devoid of drudgery.
