Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hebbal was started in the year 1965 in HQTC Barracks, and later moved into the present imposing Pentagon structure in the year 1973. The Pentagon building has become a model for quite a few newly started Kendriya Vidyalayas and got a prestigious place by way of an article in the KVS Educational Journal "SANGAM". The sprawling campus is situated half- way on the main road connecting Mekhri Circle and Indian Institute of Science and is adjacent to Head Quarters Training Command Indian Air Force, Bangalore. It is about 4 Kms. from the Cantonment Railway Station and about 6 Kms. from the City Railway Stations. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hebbal was started in the year 1965. The Vidyalaya has classes from I to XII with an enrolment of 2028 with Science and Commerce Streams at the Plus- Two level. The Vidyalaya has maintained high academic standards with 98.83% results in the 2004 CBSE Class XII Examinations and 98.59% in the 2004 CBSE Class X Examination. The Vidyalaya provides opportunities to its students to participate in a variety of activities. The Vidyalaya participates in Games, Sports and other activities organized locally and also at Inter Kendriya Vidyalaya level by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The activities include Mathematics Olympiad, Green Olympiad, National Level Essay and Painting Competitions, Youth Parliament, Adventure Activities, Educational Tours, Scouting etc.
